When I meet a woman with a history of breast cancer in her family I ask what she is doing to prevent it. Or in the case of a woman who already has breast cancer - what are you doing to prevent recurrence? The answer is always the same - "I get a mammogram every six months". While mammograms are extremely important, they DETECT cancer, not PREVENT it!!!
Just because you have a genetic predisposition toward breast cancer does not mean you have to sit around and wait to get it. There are several things you should be doing right now to help reduce your risk.
To understand your real risk you have to know several things:
- How do you metabolize estrogen? Estrogen is metabolized into three different substrates, some more cancer provoking. We measure each substrate to tell if you are accumulating the wrong kind and recommend interventions to help these pathways work optimally.
- Do you have any inflammation in your body? Inflammation causes cancer, period. We look beyond the traditional medical tests to identify your inflammation status.
- How are you handling stress? Stress causes inflammation. And like I said, inflammation causes cancer. We help you view stress from a different perspective and address it appropriately. (see adrenal fatigue section for more information)
Find out what you need to do to decrease your risk. Our approach is true PREVENTION!
